“The Stain” Part One

In the final film, there is a scene where Carol Anne approaches the television. A ghoulish hand floats out and bursts into the wall. In the screenplay, this began a small subplot, where a stain starts growing on that exact spot on the wall.

Later in the film, Diane finds E Buzz barking at the wall. Diane’s eyes are then directed to something, but the film cuts away. She, of course, was looking at the stain on the wall. The scene actually went on for a bit longer. She grabs a pillowcase and attempts to clean it off, but it doesn’t budge.

A bit later, as Teague and Steven are talking by the cemetery, we return to the stain as Diane is cleaning around the house. While she is making her bed, she notices that the stain is much larger now. Diane sees a picture on the other wall, and decides to hang it over the stain.

The stain then briefly disappears for a short time after the house has been “cleansed,” but  it doesn’t take long for it to reappear.
